In 1969, a group of caring churches in Pewaukee joined together to form the Inter-Church Lay Council. The council was first formed to assist people in need with rides to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, etc. As that need grew, in 1983, the Pewaukee Food Pantry was established.

In March 1983, Russ and Vernell Bergles were instrumental in organizing the food pantry. The pantry was located in the basement of River Hills Health Care Center for several years. In September 2004, the pantry moved to Gethsemane United Methodist Church. Extra food that did not fit in the pantry was stored at the Armory for several years. When the space at the armory was no longer available to us, Gethsemane graciously offered to build a storage room. This extra space, built in 2007, allowed us to have all food in one location and easily accessible. The food pantry requires both setup and disassembly each day we are open.
